I think the elements that you have pulled together here amount to making this shot very "archetypal" in feel. The composition, the lone tree, the dramatic sky and the fact that we view it "looking up" make me feel like something huge happened this day. Maybe attending the funeral of a loved one, or some kind of ending or one of lifes "rites of passage"...something that makes me think and see from a more expansive, global perspective....kinda, sorta, maybe.

this shot definately represents a change for me. i can feel my style changing, and i see it in my work. i think i'm bonding with this parkway, and in turn, it is showing me its wonderful secrets. i remember when i was younger, when we'd take trips that would take us close to the parkway i would try to imagine what it was like... there is something majestic yet calming about this place. yes, it is impressive, but not overpowering like the rockies are. this is an older mountain range, with more history. one thing about this picture, you aren't looking up at it. its at eye level. however, it was on a cliff, and i was looking out from that cliff. its a magical feeling to have your feet planted firmly on the ground, and yet still be enveloped by the sky. "where heaven and earth meet" -- Joseph Hawk ~ [link] One of the aspects i most love about photography is that there is easily a philosophical undertow attached to it, if we wish to access it. Symbols being the universal language and all....hehe
